David Letterman shows son Harry; Julia Roberts: leave Octomom alone
Julia Roberts was one of the guests on David Letterman last night. She wore a striking white pantsuit that complemented her gorgeous figure without showing any skin. Most of the initial interview between Letterman and Roberts was awkward as he kept saying he wanted a chance with her in the past but that she got married and had children. Roberts reminded Letterman that his son is older than her children so that must mean that he’s been with the mother of his child longer than she’s been with her husband.
After the break Letterman showed a brief clip of his son Harry, 5, after Roberts asked him what he looked like. Harry looked a little bewildered at the camera but waved sweetly and was so cute! Letterman said that Harry “was here at the show one day,” which is when the footage was taken. He quipped that Harry “actually prefers Leno.”
On his love for his son
Letterman said “I can’t really talk about it, because everybody who’s had a kid knows it… It’s like some sort of hydroelectric force in you that is unqualified.”
“Yes,” Julia answered, “You just crack wide open.”
Letterman then got philosophical asking “Why doesn’t that feeling, that everyone on the planet has, why doesn’t that transcend to keep us from killing one another?”
Then Letterman found a piece of hair in the back of Roberts’ head that was pink and he seemed to delight in picking it up and showing it to the audience. Roberts explained that the pink streak was for her twins Hazel and Phin, 4.
“Hazel thought I should have pink hair. For someone who wants enthusiasm and support but perhaps less attention I don’t think that having a head of pink hair is the way to go. So I went for just a little bit.
“[Hazel] was crazy about it, but Phin was more crazy about it. He will stop people in the market. ‘Sir, sir, look at my mommy’s hair.'”
Letterman said that he wanted to paint the house purple at Harry’s insistence and Julia enthused “You’re so great!” He answered “Mom didn’t think so. She just didn’t think purple would look great on a shingled home.”
The things we do for our kids.
Julia on the Octomom: leave her alone
The subject of Octomom came up when Dave was showing a photo spread that Julia did for Allure in an octagonal home. Julia then said “Octomom, octohomes” and added “honestly, talk about love each other more. Whatever we think, deep inside our minds. I think we should just leave that gal alone.”
Letterman said “I don’t know anything about her. In the beginning it started off as one of those creepy but sweet stories. Now there for a while, it just seemed creepy. I don’t know where it is now. The one thing is there’s not really a shortage of humans.”
Roberts said that she didn’t want to have more kids and that “I think I’m good.”
Dave straightened up and said “Let me know, so I can adjust the chair.”
Letterman was kind of skeevy with Roberts but that was sweet that he showed footage of his son. I don’t watch The Late Show regularly, and am not sure if he’s shown his son before, but I think this is the first time. From what I know Dave is a very private person and it must have been a big decision for him to show Harry on the air.
